Introduction

In this database, you can find all statistical data of Hungarian handball from the year 1997. Since then, the amount of data recorded - as the number matches and categories - has increased steadily. When designing the software, our priority was to create a system that is coherent and easy to browse, though the amount of data was changing from season to season.

In the future, we wish to register even more data, so that the friends of handball can have access to even more information. Parallelly, we wish to make the registration process quicker. From the season 2003/04, together with the Hungarian Handball Federation, we have developed an online registration system. The first league teams in Hungary already use it. Now, we are trying to make the system available for more teams: youth teams and regional championships are going to be involved in the database as well. Furthermore, we are planning to register the Hungarian and international cup matches, and the international matches as well.

It is important to make these data available not only in Hungarian, but also in other languages. The website was available in English right at the beginning, and other translations are on the way. You can switch to Hungarian or English by choosing it on the header.

The matches are categorized on three different levels. There is a category for matches, which currently consists of the main round and the playoff. We intend to add here the cup matches and the international matches. After this category we have the seasons and the team categories. The team categories in the main round are: Division 1, Division 1/B, Division 2, men’s women’s, youth and cadet championships. In the category playoff you can find what obviously belongs there (for ex.: Division 1 men’s upper draw).

Menu groups

The various data are divided into 6 groups:

  • Table
  • Scorelist
  • Games
  • Addresses
  • Designation
  • People

You can search in various ways on all pages, and sometimes it is possible to switch to another menu of the statistics. The current menu is always highlighted, this you should note. The most important data is available via URL. It means that you may put a link on your website by copying the address of the interesting statistical data. (for ex.: http://handball.ithelp.hu/DesktopDefault.aspx?menuid=50&seasonid=8&teamcatid=1&teamid=1128049&mode=3)

The text underlined always marks a link. If one clicks on, he is taken to another part of the statistics. You should pay attention to this, because not everything is available from the menu, but some items only from other statistics. These are the matches of a team, available from the table or from the list of the matches, but not separately. For example, by clicking matches>> on the table, one may reach the same information as by clicking on it at the games directory. We tried to give some additional information to each link. This is visible if you pull the mouse above them. For example, above the link ‘person’ appears ‘person in details’. It means that here you may find the curriculum of the given person.

Data on the website are available in printable (pdf) and Excel format. Currently, this is only true in the case of the most important statistical data. When it is so, you have to click on the Acrobat Pdf and/or Excel icon, so that you can open or save the document.

There are no ‘back’ buttons on the site, for this purpose, you may use the browser’s one.

Table

When clicking on Table, we have to choose first match and team category. Currently, the main round and playoff categories are available. Switching between them is possible with the main round and playoff links. Team categories may be different from season to season, and even there they are grouped. Main round was untouched since 1997/98, but there were changes in the playoff phases. There is a huge number of team categories, accordingly, their grouping was necessary. Having chosen the appropriate team category, we will get the table by clicking ‘search’. If a table is already on screen, it automatically disappears when changing the season, as team categories also change.

If the table is on screen, we can see a short one on the left and a complete one in the middle. The table contains data related to the number of a team’s lost and won matches, the number of the goals scored and suffered, and the points gained so far. If the current number of points is starred, it means that the team was punished with points for irregularities. What’s more, there is a link matches>>, that takes us to its menu to see all the matches of the given team in the season in the chosen category (main round, playoff…).

If you click on the name of the team, you can read information about the team (address, fax, e-mail, website, phone, and the name of the arena). Then follows a list of the members of the team (coaches, officials, players…). By clicking on them one gains access to the menu ‘people’, where he gets to know their curriculum. For further details see ‘people‘.

Among the data there is a link to ‘Team stats’ marked with red. By clicking on it one may reach the previous stats of a given team. On this page one can see all the individual stats of the players of the team in the given season (in all match categories). The data available here are: number of matches played, goals scored, penalties thrown and converted, warnings, 2 minute suspensions and red cards. As default, the goals scored appear on screen, but one can choose other criteria for the listing. One can click again on the names to reach the personal statistics of a given person.

Scorelist

By clicking on the top scorer list, we can choose a championship category. There is no main round and playoff separately here, as this list involves both. Having chosen the team category, by clicking on ‘search’ the top scorer list appears. One may click on the names. The current clubs of the players are also visible. It does not mean that the player scored all of his/her goals at this club, as they might have changed squad. On the list one may read how many matches the players played, how many goals they scored (how many action goals), how many warnings and suspensions they got, and how many 7 meters throw they converted and with what percentage.

Above the list there is a menu, and the list can be organized according to four criteria. The top scorer list is organized according to the action goals. The fair play list may be deceiving as the “least fair” players are on the top of the list, but this is the official terminology. The players are listed by the average of their punishments (1 point for a warning, 2 for a 2 minutes suspension, 5 for a red card).

In the 7 meters statistics, the scoring percentage decides the ranking of the players. However, there is one rule not to let a player with 1 goal of 1 try lead the table. These players are inserted in the list after those scoring more than 6 penalties. Who did not score a single goal from penalty goes to the end of the list.

Here Excel and PDF files are also available.

Games

At ‘games’ one can choose a team just as at the league tables. Its use is also similar. By clicking on the desired category and having clicked on search, there is a possibility to choose dates to list matches accordingly. If one does not fill this out, the chosen season will be listed in time sequence, not according to rounds.

By clicking on the names of the squads one may reach the matches of a given team in the chosen season. The list is in time sequence again. One can click on the teams again to get the relevant matches. Here the main round and playoff matches of the teams are listed separately.

In the last block of the matches, there is a link ‘details’. Here the place of the match, the referees, jury, and timekeeper, number of spectators, halftime and final result are listed. The personal stats are also available by clicking on the persons’ names.

Addresses

The participants of the current season are listed. By clicking on them further details are available: address, phone number, fax, e-mail. In addition, their youth teams are also listed with the same detailed information. This list is in accordance with the official booklet of the Hungarian Handball Federation issued yearly.

Designation

Here, one can see the current designation, the profiles of the officials (referees, jury, and timekeepers). First one has to choose one of them from the menu on the left.

At ‘current designation’ appears the designation available from today.

At ‘referees-games’ one may search a referee. The name of his mate and number of matches assisted are available. By clicking on ‘link’ highlighted with red colour, the matches of the referee are detailed and their results are also shown. It can be traced down whether a referee is a impartial with a team or not. These stats are available in pdf and excel formats.

At ‘team-referee’ there is a possibility to choose a team and match category. After clicking ‘search’, in the central menu a team can be chosen. The matches of the team will appear with the information on the referees and the results of the games.

At ‘officials’ the same match-team choices appear as at the league tables. The difference is that here all the match categories can be searched (main round and playoff, but cup and other matches are also shown). After choosing from the groups, click ‘search’. Then the date is to be chosen (from-till) and a scroll menu for the referees, jury, timekeepers. Before clicking search, choose these parameters. If the date is not specified, all matches from the current season will appear. This can be a significant amount of data, so it is recommended to select the dates. After the search, the officials of the games will appear on the screen. At ‘details’ one may see the match registers. By clicking on the teams, the referees of the teams can be reached - as it can be reached from the ‘team-referee’ submenu.

People

Here all the actors of the championship are listed, not only players. In the search field the name or the initial of the name must be written. A list is prepared, and one can choose according to his interest. Dates of births are also given to avoid mixing up players with the same names. One person may also appear more times on the list, but this is due to registration errors.

By clicking on a given person, his/ her profile appears. The clubs and roles are shown from season to season in the case of a player, trainer or club official. If he/she is a player, the personal stats are also available.
